Leeds United Academy
On Wednesday 16th January, the KS1 football team played in the Leeds Finals of the ‘Road to Thorp Arch Schools Championship’ at the Leeds United Academy.
In the qualifying rounds back in November, we won all our matches quite convincingly to reach the finals. There were 45 schools (450 children) in the qualifying rounds and Brodetsky were one of ten schools across Leeds to qualify for the finals.
There were two groups in the finals, each with 5 teams. In our group rounds we played some very tough matches against Woodlesford, Grimes Dyke, Raynville and Valley View. The teams played each other twice and out of the eight games played we won 5, drew 2 and lost 1. This was a brilliant result in our group and we were the winners of this group, which meant we were in the semi-finals.
In the semi finals we played some brilliant football, winning 3-0 to reach the finals of this event.
The final was between Valley View, the only team that had managed to beat us in the qualifying rounds so we knew it was going to be a tough one! Brodetsky surpassed themselves with an outstanding performance and went 2-0 up quite quickly. After that, the opposing team pushed hard and soon equalised. It was a tense last few minutes and Valley View scored two amazing overhead shots that nobody would be able to stop. The final score was 4-2 to the opposing team.
Brodetsky are proud to be the runners up of this event and the boys too should feel proud of this wonderful achievement which should be celebrated. Their attitude, determination and competitive spirit were of the highest standard. On another note, we would like to congratulate Joseph and Oscar who were selected by the Leeds United scouts to start the academy with immediate effect. The academy would also like to see Jacob and Manasseh when they hold their open day.
Finally, a huge thank you to Mr Saffer who helped and supported the team in the finals.
