In Reception we are following the Maths Mastery approach to teaching number. The children learn about the composition of each number in great depth. They learn to understand and think of all different combinations of numbers that go together to make a number. They can represent this in their own ways. Examples include, using practical objects, using numicon, drawing pictures, drawing part whole models, writing numbers and writing number sentences.
